Abstract
This study aimed at describing the students’ mastery of vocabulary by using picture in learning English. This study is a quantitative research which is intended to measure the students’ mastery of vocabulary using picture in vocabulary test. The subjects of this study are 16 students who were taken randomly from eight grades. The findings of the study are (1). The students master vocabulary using picture (2). The level of the students’ mastery of vocabulary is excellent (3). The students’ difficulties in learning vocabulary using picture are students are not familiar with certain terms because the students have limit of topics in the teaching instruction, and the students used Indonesian language mostly in the classroom. Based on the findings above, it is suggested that the English teacher should have a good planning before teaching, prepare pictures related to topics, employ various methods and create good environment in the classroom. There should be teacher-students interaction more often in English as well.
