Abstract

Koa, Delviana. 2021. This study entitled An analysis of students’ ability in descriptive writing the first grade of SMK St. Agustinus Kefamenanu in the teaching year 2020/2021. Universitas Timor. Main Advisor (1) Drs. Edmundus Bouk, M.Pd , and Associate Advisor (2) Drs. Anselmus Sahan, M.Pd. This study discusses the analysis of students' abilities in descriptive writing. The purpose of this study was To find out whether or not the first grade students of SMK St. Agustinus Kefamenanu have mastered descriptive writing, To point out the difficulties the students find in descriptive writing and To categorize their mastery level on descriptive writing. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The instrument used is a writing test. The population in this study was the first grade students of SMK St. Agustinus Kefamenanu for the academic year 2020/2021. The research sample is class X A which consists of 24 students. This research was discussed about the students have mastered the vocabulary on descriptive writing. The data shows that their total of score is 1,930 (or: 80.416). Mechanic is still the difficult part they faced in learning the descriptive writing. In this part, their score was about 220 (or: 9.16). On the basis of the scores they got, their level of mastery in descriptive writing is categorized very good because 18 students’ scores are on this mastery level.
