Abstract

x ABSTRACT Luan, Emerensiana Yovita, 2023. Thesis” Improving The Speaking Ability of The Eight Grade Students of SMP Negeri Kota Baru Through Pictures In The School Year 2022/2023” Universitas Timor Main Advisor: (1 )Anselmus Sahan, M.Pd. and Associate Advisor: (2) Febronia Lasi, S.Pd.,M.Ed. The purpose of this writing were To know how pictures can improve the students vocabulary, To know the Problems faced the students to improve speaking ability through pictures, To what excellent pictures improve students speaking ability. The method of this writing was descriptive quantitative. The research was conducted in the second year students of SMPN Kota Baru. The population of this writing is the second year Students of SMPN Kota Baru in the school year 2022/2023. The writer chooses a class VIII. A as the sample of this writing which consist of 20 students. The instrument that use by the writer is Essay Test in the form of picture and then the students describe it in Speaking English in the front of their class one by one. The data collection procedures can be divided into several stages including the researcher explained the criteria of speaking test, and give the random topic to them, and then they were be asked to express their ideas or opinions .Based on the result of the analysis, the study concluded that students of class eight at SMPN Kota Baru in speaking ability was classified into good level.
