Abstract

This study aims to determine the critical thinking ability of class XI students of SMA Negeri Noemuti in solving math problems. The research method used in this study is a qualitative research method. This subjects in this study were students of class XI IPA 1 SMA Negeri Noemuti, totaling 20 students, and the subjects to be students further were 3 subjects, these 3 subjects selected based on critical thinking skills in the high category, medium category, and low category. The type of data collected in the form of qualitative date, namely the results of critical thinking skills tests and interviews. The date were analyzed based on critical thinking indicators according to Perkins and Murphy included clarification, assessment, strategist, and inference. Data analysis was carried out through stages, namely date reduction, date presentation and verification. The results o date analysis obtained 60% of students included in the low category with the ability to formulate the main points of the problem (clarifiction), provide the right reasons to produce the correct argument (assessment). 25% of students are included in the medium category with the ability to formulate the main points of the problem (clarification), give good reasons to produce correct arguments (assessment), solve problems with solutions based on concepts (strategist), and draw conclusions (inference). 15% of students are included in the high category with the ability to formulate the main points of the problem (clarification), give the right reasons to produce the right argument (assessment), solve problems with solutions based on concepts (strategist), and draw conclusions (inference).
