Abstract

This thesis entitled “An Analysis Of Ability In Translating Indonesian Narrative Text Into English Made By Eleventh Grade Science Students Of Sma Swasta Pelita Karya Kefamenanu In The Academic Year 2023/2024.” This thesis is supervised by Drs.Anselmus Sahan,M.Pd as the main advisor and Yanuarius Seran,S.Pd.,M.Sc as the associate advisor. The aims of this research are to categorize the students’ level of mastery, identify the errors committed by the students, and find out the difficulties faced by the students in translating Indonesian narrative text into English. A random sampling technique is used to take the sample, and there are 25 students in the science class of the 11th grade as the sample for this study. To gather the data, the researcher used a test, and to know the errors of the students, the writer gave the score based on the level of mastery. The test consists of one narrative text (10 sentences) in one type of essay. The writer focused on analyzing errors in translation so the researcher could find out about students’ errors in translating Indonesian narrative text into English. The conclusion of this research stated that the eleventh grade science students of SMA Swasta Pelita Karya Kefamenanu have mastered translating Indonesian narrative texts into English. It can be proved by the data that 19 of 25 students have excellent scores while others are good, and their average is 92,8. The students found difficulties in translating the text because of a lack of vocabulary, inabilities, and bad preparation
