Abstract

This thesis is entitled “The Mastery of the Eighth Grade Students of SMPS Kristen Kefamenanu in Reading Descriptive Text in the school year 2021/2022.” Advisors (1) Drs. Anselmus Sahan, M.Pd and (2) Hesni Neno, S.Pd, M.Pd. This research is conducted to answer the following problems: have the eighth grade students mastered descriptive text and to what level is the eighth grade students’ mastery of descriptive text categorized. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. There are fifteen (15) students of the eight grade students of SMPS Kristen Kefamenanu 2021/2022 who become the subject of this study. The instrument used for data collection is multiple choice which consists of 20 numbers with three texts. To answer the research problems, the writer calculated the students’ average score from multiple choice. The result of the data analysis shows that the students master descriptive text. The average score is 80. The result shows that 9 students are categorized excellent, 6 students are good, and none is enough, poor or very poor. It means that their level of mastery is excellent.
