Abstract

Bria Kristina, 2022. “ANALYZING THE STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN COMIC STRIPS OF THE SECOND YEAR STUDENTS OF SMPN KOTA BARU IN ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2021/2022", The main supervisor named Imanuel Kamlasi, S.Pd,,M,Pd and Second Advisor Drs. Edmundus Bouk, M.Pd This is aimed todetermine whether the Eight students of SMPN Kota Baru have the ability to read using comic strips. To collect the data, the authors took 16 second grade students of the SMPN Kota Baru in the school year 2021/2022 as a sample. The author gives a test to determine the students reading ability using comic strips. The test can be in the form of multiple choice consisting of 15 questions. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. To analyze the data, from the calculation above, it shows that 87,5% of the 14 eight grade students of SMPN Kota Baru have understood reading by using comic strips. Individually students reading comprehension level with comics is very good. The data findings show that the student abilities are at very good level. There are possible solutions to overcome students reading difficulties such as: students should know about how to translate vocabulary into Indonesian using comics because comics are one of the media for students to improve their reading knowledge about English material. The before, the suggest that the students pay more attention and improve reading knowledge. Keywords: study, reading, ability
