Abstract

This thesis is entitled“ Improving the Students’ Vocabulary Mastery by Using Short Story on the Eight Grade of SMPK Aurora in the School Year 2021/2022”. Advisor(1)Drs.Anselmus Sahan ,M.Pd and (2) Merlin Helentina Napitupulu,S.S,M,Hum. This research was conducted to answer the following problems : How can the use of English short story improve students’ vocabulary mastery in learning English, Does the use of short story significantly improve the vocabulary of the eight grade students of SMPK Aurora. The data analysis used was quantitative data analysis which was carried out by comparing the scores obtained from the results in Cycle I and Cycle II by using multiple choice in short story. The test results from this study can be concluded that the increase obtained from 15students , Comparison of student learning outcomes based on preliminary data, The students score in cycle I shows that the highest score is 70 and the lowest score 50. The score show that from 15 students, who did the test. The data reveal that 5 students got the score of 70, 5 students got the score 60 and 5 students got score 50. It is based on the data that their average score is 60 %. It is got from the division of the total number of the score (900) with the total number of students (15 students) with the level of mastery is enough. The students score in cycle II shows that the highest score is 95 and the lowest score 70. The score show that from 15 students, who did the test. The data reveal that 2 students got the score of 95, 3 students got the score 90 ,4 students got score 85,3 students got score 75,5 students got score 70. It is based on the data that their average score is 83%. It is got from division of the total number of the score (1.235) with the total number of students (15 students) with the level of mastery is excellent.
