Abstract

The propose of this study was investigate about vocabulary mastery of the students SMP St. Yosef Maubesi. It was short story approach with quantitative type. The population of the students class VIII B, the total number of the students class VIII B were 25 students.the research paid attentions to the student’ vocabulary mastery gived by reading short stories. This researcher aimed to investigate (1) the use of short story in enriching students’ English vocabulary of Smp St. Yosef Maubesi and (2) the students’ perception toward the use of short story in enriching their English vocabulary.the resaerch collected this data by conducting two tests(pretest and postest). The result of data analysis showed that the mean of the students vocabulary mastery was 61.32 and the short story 83.8 .the data interpretation stated that the level students vocabulary mastery and short story was good.research have proven with student tests result
